POP Protocol Overview

Version 3 of the Post Office Protocol (POP-3), documented in RFC 1725, is designed for user-to-mailbox access. Facilities are provided for user authentication and mailbox manipulation. Authentication takes the form of a password transmitted as clear text, so POP3 should be used carefully if security is of concern.
