Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare
Act 5 - Scene 2
Before the walls of Athens.
First Senator : Thou hast painfully discover'd: are his files
[p]As full as thy
report?
Messenger : have spoke the least:
[p]Besides, his expedition promises
[p]Present
approach.
Second Senator : We stand much hazard, if they bring not Timon.
Messenger : I met a courier, one mine ancient friend;
[p]Whom, though in general
part we were opposed,
[p]Yet our old love made a particular
force,
[p]And made us speak like friends: this man was riding
[p]From
Alcibiades to Timon's cave,
[p]With letters of entreaty, which
imported
[p]His fellowship i' the cause against your city,
[p]In part
for his sake moved.
First Senator : Here come our brothers.
Third Senator : No talk of Timon, nothing of him expect.
[p]The enemies' drum is
heard, and fearful scouring
[p]Doth choke the air with dust: in, and
prepare:
[p]Ours is the fall, I fear; our foes the snare.
