Orange & date bread
Yield: 2 Loaves
Ingredients:
- 1 c Butter or margarine soft
- 2 c Sugar
- 3 Eggs
- 4 c Flour
- 1 ts Baking soda
- 1 ts Salt
- 1 1/3 c Buttermilk
- 1 c Chopped dates
- 1 c Chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1 tb Grated orange rind MMMMM---------------------------GLAZE--------------------------------
- 1/4 c Orange juice
- 1/2 c Sugar
- 2 tb Grated orange rind
Instructions:
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs beat well. Combine dry ingredients and add alternately with the buttermilk. Fold in walnuts dates and orange rind. Pour into two 8 1/2 inch greased and floured pans and bake at 350F. degrees for about an hour. Comb NOTES: Can be made ahead and frozen. From Taste of Home magazine Dec.'94
