Sauerbraten golden apple meatballs
Yield: 6 Servings
Ingredients:
- 3 Golden Delicious apples
- 1 1/2 lb Ground beef
- 1/2 c Soft bread crumbs
- 1/4 c Finely chopped onions
- 1 Egg
- 1 ts Salt
- 1/4 ts Pepper
- 1/4 ts Thyme
- 1 tb Oil
- 1 c Water
- 3 tb Vinegar
- 1 tb Packed brown sugar
- 1/4 c Crushed gingersnap -Cookies
- 1 Bay leaf
Instructions:
Pare core and grate apple to measure 1 cup.Mix with ground beef bread crumbs onion egg and seasonings.Shape into balls about 1 1/2" in diameter.Brown on all sides in oil.Drain excess fat.Combine remaining ingredients;pour over meatballs and bring to boil.Core and cut remaining apples into wedges.Add to skillet.Reduce heat cover simmer 15 to 20 minutes or until apples are tender.Remove bay leaf. Makes 6 servings.
